Final Crochet Project of the Year and Pattern Review….

.

What a year…2013 is almost over!  I have loved every minute of sharing my crochet folly with all of you!!!  I worked right up to the deadline and finished my final (or almost final) project last night… I may be able to slip a hat or two in on New Years Eve,,, I would love to crochet into the new year!!!  I had forgotten how much I enjoyed crocheting with thread. On day while shopping for yarn I spotted a new color of the most fabulous size 10 thread… PEACOCK!!!  I had to have it, even though I didn’t have a project in mind… I scooped it up!  Once I arrived home I scanned the internet for a doily pattern and found one I loved…

.

In only a few short hours I whipped up this wonderful doily named Summer Splendor by Denise’s Crochet Paradise!  The pattern was easy to follow and worked up quite well… Each round was a nice repetitive pattern, which I loved!  I was able to read the pattern row and complete each round while watching t.v or chatting online with my good friend Kathy Lashley from ELK Studio Handcrafted Crochet Designs… And speaking of Kathy and our chatting… I will have a great story to share with you on New Years Day that will have you rolling with laughter!!!  We can bring in the New year on a joyous note!!!    If you would like to try this pattern out Click Here for the Free Pattern.

The doily was made using Aunt Lydias size 10 classic thread in peacock and measures 13 inches across.  A perfect doily for my coffee table…Let’s see if I keep this or give it up!

.

One of my favorite memories of my Grandmother Beatrice Ryan Ramshaw was her thread-work… She was a master at doilies, tablecloth’s and much more!  I was blessed to inherit her collection, at least the ones she kept for herself.  I am pretty sure she was like the rest of us crochet-a-holics… she gave most of her work away as gifts…  I have dozens of her doilies and I use them all around my house!!  I look at them and think of all the hard work that went into them,,, Many of them were worked with the finest thread,,, Thousands of stitches!!  I am so happy she taught me to crochet!!!   What about you??  Who was your crochet mentor??

.

Tune in tomorrow for a year-end photo celebration featuring many of my projects that were done in 2013!!!  Let’s bring in the New Year together!!!  Crochet Hooks in hand and new projects began… And don’t forget,,, Our Viewer’s Choice Crochet-A-Long will be starting in the next couple weeks… The materials list will be posted in the next few days… Yippeeeeee!!!

.

Happy Crocheting,,, Elena

  1. That is beautiful. I love the color.

  2. Stunning color!!! Your work is always so beautiful Elena. You should show us some of your grandmother’s doilies sometime. I would love to see them!

  3. The Purple Poncho

Beautiful doilie, love the color too! My Grandma Mary taught me to crochet after she made me a purple poncho.

  4. I’ve used that color before and yes, it is beautiful. My mother was my inspiration – but I’ve done so many more things in crochet and knit that she’s never tried 🙂
