  1. I love the way it flips up on the end. I think I’ll make it today. I make hats for cancer patients and I’m always looking for something new. Thanks for sharing

  2. I caught the sneak preview last night in the wee hours. What a pretty hat! And thank you for using Sugar & Cream, as that’s the only cotton I have available. I so appreciate you and your work!

  3. this is really really lovely, thank you. I’ve just looked up what a G or H hook is in metric sizes, so who knows, the making of this might happen sooner rather than later. I will use a wintery yarn, though, because it’s getting jolly damn cold over here 🙂

  4. Love the hat. You look gorgeous in it too!

  5. I’m making it now for the Facebook group we belong to!

  6. super cute! love the pattern, appreciate your sharing!

  7. Cute hat! Thanks for sharing your pattern, I am going on vacation soon and think I need to make one!

  8. I hate my hair blowing in my face but can’t stand to wear a hat. Hubby saw this pattern and said you should make that hat. It looks like something you might be able to wear. I read type of yarn but didn’t give any more thought to it. We went to store and hubby went to craft section and picked up 2 different colors of sugar and cream yarn. I said no I don’t think I will be able to wear it but hubby insisted on buying the yarn so I crocheted one up for the heck of it. So surprised when I put it on it was so comfortable I wore it all afternoon in the hot sun. Planning on making more for myself and girlfriend saw it and loved it so making one for her too.

  9. I am rather new to crochet and so far the hat was working up nicely till I got to the brim. The row just before that (14) indicates a single crochet decrease (correct?) more than once accordingly as it is written. After that row I tried it on for fit and it was perfect until I switched to a G hook and began the brim. Though I followed correctly or so I thought (front loops only on Row 15, etc.) and marked the beginning of the rows, as I counted stitches I never had enough to reach whichever number was listed (72 on the next 3 rows). By the time I reached the marker indicating the beginning I kept falling short in number by several stitches even though I know I didn’t ‘skip’ any. Consequently once I got to Row 18 and tried the fit again the hat’s opening had narrowed some that it no longer would fit comfortably with its crown touching my head! Not sure if I’m explaining this right and I can’t figure out where I went wrong but I tore it out back to Row 14 to try again after inquiring on here. I LOVE the hat and I’m making it for myself with a variegated Peaches and Cream Cotton yarn in shades of blue and green called Seaside Stripes so any help would be greatly appreciated so I’ll be ready for the beach! Thank you. 🙂

It is hard for me to know exactly what you are doing wrong… But if at Row 13 you have 72 stitches and then for Row 14 you do the correct decreases you should end up with 64 stitches. Then for Row 15 you add back the stitches by increasing… and have 72 again.. If I understand you correctly on Row 15 is where you start to come up short… If this is the case maybe you are not doing the 2 Sc in every 8 stitches…

  10. I plan to crochet this sweet hat pattern for our craft class We crochet and knit hats for the cancer center in Lynchburg Virginia thanks so much for the pattern Gloria Johnston

  11. I love this hat but…

It’s a bit too big. I have a small head for being a big woman. 🙂 I wanted to use up some of the Peaches & Cream yarn I had in my stash, so I made the hat in yellow and the brim in a variegated yellow and it looks so nice and summery. It comes down too far on my face though. I’d like to try again but make it smaller. Where would you recommend doing that? I was thinking one or two rows on the crown and a row or two of shells. The brim is a bit wide too, but I’m afraid of making changes to it since there are some increases and decreases involved.

  12. Thanks for the cute pattern. However, I’m finding some problems with how the stitch counts add up. As it is written, Row 14 only totals 63 stitches, not the 64 indicated. Rows 15, 18, and 20 are each short by 2 stitches after calculating each stitch and repeat you indicated. I have been adding some stitches to be able to continue and finish the pattern.

  13. I love the hat ,but I can’t figure out why I keep coming up with more shells than 12 in the 7th row. I have the right amount of 72 Dc in row 6………. and have done exactly what row 7 says ,and I come up with to many shells . HELP !

    • Beatrice Ryan Designs

      I don’t know what you are adding… there are 6 items per sequence and 12 times… thats 72… Dc(1), sk 2(2&3), Shell(4), Sk 2(5&6). I hope that helps

  14. I used smaller hooks and the hat was enormous.

    • Beatrice Ryan Designs

Interesting… Others have said it was small… I guess we each have different tension…

  15. J Irving Karch

I’m a real newbie to yarn crochet. Many years ago I did thread work making runners for dressers. I am trying to surprise my wife by making this hat for her. my only question (so far) is how do I make a magic ring?

    Jay

  16. Starting row 7 with 72 stitches previous tow, I ended with 22 shells.

2 skipped stitches, 5 dc, then skip next 2 stitches around gave me 22 shells not 11. HELP!

  17. how do I crochet this hat for a two year old girl , please?

    • Beatrice Ryan Designs

You can try a larger hook, but this is only written for infants and not calculated for larger sizes… Sorry

  18. Such a darling hat…I am making it for my sister who is loosing her hair do to preCA problem and I am loving how it is coming together…Did you block it after you made it and if you did how did you do it? I have made her a few acrylic ones and blocked them with steam (different patterns) but not sure how to proceed with cotton. Thank you for all your wonderful patterns.
