Whimsical Autumn Afghan Crochet Along… Week 4!



Whimsical Autumn Afghan… 4 fun square styles, 10 weeks and you will end up with a beautiful crochet project just in time for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

It isn’t too late to start… You can find all of the weekly links in the Crochet with Me tab at the top of the page. And, join the Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL Facebook Group to show off your project, chat about the project and have a blast crocheting!

This weeks square is a traditional style square… Each round is a different color and this retro style square is the last of the 4 styles… Over the next 6 weeks, we will make the balance of the squares in specific color schemes, join the squares and make the edging… Easy!!!

If you are ready… Let’s get started with Week 4!!

Yarn Colors ~ 

A – Claret B – Gold(or Sunflower) C – Ocean D – Deep Purple(or Deep Violet) *You can you your own color combinations if you like!

Stitches ~

St – Stitch  Sk – Skip  Sp – Space  Sl St – Slip Stitch  Ch – Chain  Sc – Single Crochet  Dc – Double Crochet

Size ~

9″ x 9″ each square – Finished Afghan approx. 48″ x 66″

Make 5 Squares in the following color sequences-Changing colors each round:

1. A B C D A B C 2. B C D A B C D 3. C D A B C D A 4. D A B C D A B 5. A C B D A C B

Instructions ~

Round 1: Ch 4, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 2, 3 dc in same sp*, repeat *to* 2 more times, ch 2, join with sl st to the top of beginning ch. = 4-ch 2 sp & 4-3dc groups Finish off

Round 2: Turn, join new color with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), (2dc, ch 2, 3dc) in sp, *ch 1, (3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in next ch 2 sp*, Repeat *to* 2 more times, ch 1, join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 4-ch2 sp, 4-ch1 sp & 8-3dc groups Finish off

Round 3: Turn, join new color with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3, (2dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch 2 sp, *ch 1, 3dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 2 sp, repeat *to* 2 more times, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 4-ch 2 sp, 8- ch 1sp & 12-3dc groups Finish Off

Round 4: Turn, join new color with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3, (2dc, ch 2, 3dc) in same ch 2 sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch 2 sp*, repeat *to* 2 more times, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 4- ch 2 sp, 12- ch 1 sp & 16 – 3 dc groups Finish off

Round 5: Turn, join new color with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3, (2dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch 2 sp, *ch 1, 3dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in next ch 2 sp*, repeat *to* 2 more times, ch 1, 3dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 4-ch 2 sp, 16-ch 1 sp &20 3dc groups Finish off

Round 6: Turn, join new color with sl st in ch 2 sp, ch 3, (2dc, ch 2, 3dc) in same ch 2 sp, *ch 1, 3dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1(3dc, ch 2, 3dc) in next ch 2 sp*, repeat *to* 2 more times, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 4-ch 2 sp, 20-ch 1 sp & 24 3dc groups Finish off

Round 7: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st and 3 sc in each ch 2 sp(corner) around, Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 104 sc Finish Off

That’s it!! You now have Square Style 4 complete! Make 4 more in the assigned colors.

You will want to block your squares in to shape.. I did mine as they were finished using the wet method on blocking squares…
