2019 Crochet with Me!! Mystery Afghan CAL.. Week 4!

This week is easy-going, and simple stitching. There is a photo tutorial of the special stitch used.. So don’t worry if you have never used an X-Stitch before!  We are now 1/3 done.. Can you believe it??  I love this afghan, it is so easy to do one week at a time and in 12 weeks.. Voila.. An afghan!!!  If you are just joining me, you can still catch up, all the weeks including the Material List are in the Crochet with Me tab at the top of this page… Each week is just a few short hours of crochet.. Super manageable!

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Sc – Single Crochet

Blsc – Back Loop Single Crochet

Blhdc _ Back Loop Half Double Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Dc – Double Crochet

X St – X Stitch : Sk 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 1, dc in the 1st sk st (Photo tutorial below round 27)

30″ x 38″ smoothed, but not stretched

*This week we will be only working on the Right Side(side with texture).. No turning

Round 26:  Ch1, blsc in same st, blsc in next 2 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 99 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 71 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 99 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 68 sts, join with sl st to bl of beginning sc. = 352 blsc

Finish off

Join Color B in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 27:  Ch 3, 4 dc in same st, dc in next st, *X-st(see pic below for tutorial){Xst explanation above in stitch directory} over next 3 sts, dc in next st after X-st*, repeat *to* 24 more times, 5 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat *to* 18 times, 5 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat *to* 25 times, 5 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat *to* 18 times, join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 86 X-sts & 110 dc’s

Finish off

Join Color A in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 28:  Ch 1, 3 sc in same st, sc in next 105 sts(including the ch1’s), 3 sc in next st, sc in next 77 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 105 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 77 sts, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 376 sc’s

Finish off

Join Color C in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 29:  Ch 3, 4 more dc in same st, dc in the next 4 sts, *X-st over the next 3 sts, dc in next st after X-st*, repeat *to* 24 more times, dc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in the next 4 sts, repeat *to* 18 times, dc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in the next 4 sts, repeat *to * 25 times, dc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in the next 4 sts, repeat *to* 18 times, dc in the last 3 sts, join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 86 X-sts & 134 dc’s

Finish off

Join Color A in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Week 3 of the 2019 Crochet with Me!! Mystery Afghan Crochet Along brings us 1/4 if the way through the project. This fun and whimsical mystery afghan is really starting to take shape.. 23 1/2″ x 34″ smoothed flat

We will be working on the right side for every round this week

Join Color A in Righthand Corner Stitch on long side.

Round 20:  Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, {ch 1, sk 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, *ch 1, sk 3 sts, 3 dc in next st*, repeat *to* 19 more times, 4 more dc in same st(this makes 7 in the corner), ch 1, sk 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, repeat *to* 12 times, sk 1 sts}, ch 1, 7 dc in next st, repeat {to} 1 time, ch 1, 4 dc in same st as beginning. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 66 – 3dc’s,  4- 7dc’s & 70 ch 1 sps (total 296 sts) *orange color denotes a correction in original post(originally said sk 2)*

Finish off

Join Color B in Righthand corner st of the long end

Round 21:  Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, dc in the next 3 sts, (dc in next ch 1 sp, trc in the 1st sk st of round 19(see pic below), dc in the same ch 1 sp), *ch 1, (dc in the next ch 1 sp, trc in the 2nd sk st of round 19(see pic below), dc in the same ch 1 sp)*, repeat *to* 19 more times, dc in the next 3 sts, 3 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 sts, (dc in the next ch 1 sp, trc in the 1st sk st of round 19, dc in the same ch 1 sp, repeat *to* 12 times, ch 1, (dc in the next ch 1 sp, trc in the sk st of round 19, dc in the same ch 1 sp), dc in the next  3 sts, 3 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 sts, (dc in the next ch 1 sp, trc in the 1st sk st of round 19, dc in the same ch 1 sp), repeat *to* 20 times, dc in the next 3 sts, 3 dc in the next st, dc in the next 3 sts, (dc in the next ch 1 sp, trc in the 1st sk st from round 19, dc in the same ch 1 sp), repeat *to* 12 times, ch 1, (dc in the next ch 1 sp, trc in the sk st of round 19, dc in the same ch 1 sp), dc in the last 3 sts, join with sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. = 176 dc, 70 trc & 66 ch 1 sps (total 312 sts) *Orange color denotes a correction from original post(originally said 2nd sk st)*

Round 24:  Ch 1, blsc in st, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 95 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 67 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 95 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 66 sts, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 336 blsc.

If you are just joining in the fun, there is still plenty more time to start this crochet along with us!!  Week one was a lot of fun.. had some new crochet techniques for many of us!  Week 2 is a much more calming section… I think you will love it.. And, at the end of the 2019 Crochet with Me!! Mystery CAL you will have a beautiful afghan and something to be very proud of!! So follow along and have fun crocheting!

This weeks stitches:

Ch – Chain

St – Stitch

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Sc – Single Crochet

Blsc – Back Loop Single Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Dc – Double Crochet

Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet

Fptrc – Front Post Treble Crochet

 

Size at the end of Week 2: 18″ x 28″

 

We are starting on the right side.. Some of the rounds we will be turning. So remember the textural side is the right side…

Round 11:  Sl st in next st(this puts you in the corner st), ch 3, 2 dc in same st,  *Fpdc around next st, hdc in next 2 sts*, Repeat *to* 20 more times, Fpdc around next st, 3 dc in next st, Repeat *to * 11 times, Fpdc around next st, 3 dc in next st, repeat *to* 21 times, fpdc in next st, 3 dc in next st, repeat *to* 11 times, fpdc around the last st, join with sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. = 12 dc, 68 fpdc & 128 hdc ** there was a correction made in the pattern just after posting.. you will see it in Italic**

Round 12:  Ch 3, turn, dc in next 35 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 66 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 36 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 66 sts, 3 dc in last st, join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 216 dc

Finish off

Turn to Right Side

Join Color B in corner st on the righthand side of the long edge in the same st you finished off

Round 13:  Ch 1, 3 sc in same st, sc in next 2 sts, *fptrc around the fpdc 2 rounds below(see pic tutorial below), sc in next 2 sts(make sure to not sc in the st where you did the fptrc)*, repeat *to* 21 more times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, repeat *to* 12 times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, repeat *to* 22 times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, repeat *to* 12 times, join with sl st to beginning sc. =68 fptrc & 144 sc

 

In the photo tutorial it shows 1sc between Fptrc’s. We are doing 2 sc in this pattern.

The photo below shows a sk st, this indicates the placement of the Fptrc and you will not do a sc in this st.

Round 14:  Ch 3, turn, dc in next 39 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 70 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 40 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 70 sts, 3 dc in next st,  join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 232 dc

Finish off

Turn to Right Side, Change to Color C in the right hand side long edge corner st as before.

Round 15:  Ch 1, 3 sc in same st, sc in next 4 sts, *fptrc around the fptrc in the round below(See photo below), sc in next 2 sts*, repeat *to* 21 more times, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, repeat *to* 12 times, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, repeat *to* 22 times, sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, repeat *to* 12 times, sc in last 2 sts, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 172 sc and 68 fptrc

Round 16:   Ch 3, turn, dc in next 43 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 74 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 44 sts, 3 dc in next st, dc in next 74 sts, 3 dc in next st,  join with sl st to top of beginning ch 3. = 248 dc

Finish off

Turn to right side.  Change to Color A, join in back loop of righthand side corner st of the long side as before.

Round 17:  Ch 1, 3 blsc  in same st, blsc in next 76 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 46 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 76 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in last 46 sts, join with sl st to beginning blsc. = 256 blsc

Finish off

Do not turn

Change to Color B, join with sl st in bl of right hand corner stitch of long side as before

Round 18:  Ch 1, 3 blsc  in same st, blsc in next 78 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 48 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 78 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in last 48 sts, join with sl st to beginning blsc. =264 blsc

Finish off

Do not turn

Change to Color C, join with sl st in bl of right hand corner stitch of long side as before

Round 19:  Ch 1, 3 blsc  in same st, blsc in next 80 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 50 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 80 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in last 50 sts, join with sl st to beginning blsc. =272 blsc

Finish off
