Welcome to the 10th Annual 2023 Crochet with Me Temperature Afghan CAL Material List & Info! This year we will be doing a 4 season temperature afghan… You may wonder how that will work? Each day you will crochet a row in the specified color of yarn for the temperature in your area. You can use this to make a Lapghan for each season(4 seasons/4 lapghans) or you can make one large afghan continuing for 1 full year!

The rows will be made lengthwise. You will leave a tail at the beginning and end of each row for a fringe, so there will be no weaving the ends in unless you want too!

Below, I have the temperature chart for a full year and a variance of temps that range from <-10 thru 115>. This includes 25 colors and one special color(explanation below). Your area you may never reach those temps, so you can just purchase the yarn for your area temps or even just start with the yarn for the season you want to make and buy the rest later. How do you know what temp to use each day? You can use a weather app such as Weather.com to track your local temps. You can choose a time of day to look, the high or low or the average. Weather.com also has a monthly calendar so you can see the temp history incase you miss a day. Also, you can choose to just use the temps in your hometown or you can use them for where you are each day at the time you choose. FUN!

**Since my home town temperatures are within a range from lows of 10 degrees to highs of upper 90’s, I am going to use the daily average for myself. In order to use all of the yarn colors I purchased(25 colors), I have listed how I varied my temp chart increments. You can change yours up too if you like to get more or less colors. The above picture is just a suggestion of yarn colors and temperatures.

In addition, you have the option of choosing a special yarn color for days that are holidays, special occasions or even a big event like a huge storm or historical event! I chose Teal Sparkle for my special color!!!

The picture above for the 2023 Crochet with Me Temperature Afghan CAL is the pattern we will be making and is a 7 row repeat. Starting Sunday, January 1, 2023 I will post the row pattern for each day for the 1st 9 days(the 1st 2 rows are base rows). You will use your temperature color for each day, most likely each person will have a completely different color scheme going on. After the first 9 days, you will just repeat the 7 repeat rows using the different colors for your area. Once a week I will post my progress pic and a fun post.

I chose Hobby Lobby – I Love This Yarn as my project yarn, so the colors listed are the ones that go with that brand. You can choose your own brand to use and colors that are close if you would like! Also, if you would like to use your scraps, great idea, just list the colors you have for each temp so it works correctly.

Q & A for the 2023 Crochet with Me Temperature Afghan CAL

• Do I need to use the Hobby Lobby I Love Yarn? – No, you can use any brand and either use colors that are the same tone or make up your own color scheme
• What if my temperatures are lower or higher than in the range posted? – You can adjust your range by moving the color scale up or down. If you want to use a smaller range, you can use smaller increments too and use less yarn colors. I have adjusted my personal scale to fit my local area and the sample of mine is below.
• How does a 4 Season project work? – A season is a 3 month period, you can stop at the end or each season or continue and make 2 seasons together or continue and make the full year. You can also make each season and join them together later.
• How do you know what temp to use each day? -You can use a weather app such as Weather.com to track your local temps. • Joining new colors? -You will finish off each row leaving your tail. Without turning for the next row you will move to the first stitch on the righthand side and join your yarn. Another words, you will always work/start your new row on the right side.
• How large will this be? – The project is worked length wise, so it will be approximately 65″ long not including fringe. The width for each season will be approximately 30-36″ wide depending on your tension. If you do a full year the width will be extra large somewhere around 125″, the original 65″ is the same and then you may use the lengthwise direction differently than if you stop at the seasonal lapghan style.
