Simple Chevron Dishcloth… Free Crochet Pattern!!!



The Simple Chevron Dishcloth is a fun, retro style pattern shaped into a fun dishcloth! It is made in Fall colors to go with our 2022 Fall Gift Giving Crochet Along… 12 Dishcloths – 12 Weeks! This is week 11 in the series… These patterns are all individually available in the Free Pattern Page or in the Crochet with Me page at the top of this website.

This free crochet pattern uses basic stitching and any color scheme you prefer. It looks best if you use multiple colors… Grab your hooks and yarn and make as many as you can! This is a great TV watching project too…

Now on to Week 11 – Simple Chevron Dishcloth

Tips:

  • It is super easy, there are only a couple ends to weave in for this project.
  • You can choose any color scheme to make it your own.
  • Make sure to sl st loosely

Materials:

Yarn: 150 total Yards of Cotton Yarn

I used the following:

Color A – Orange Color B – Brown Color C – Gold

Color D – Cream

Hook: H

Stitches:

  • St – Stitch
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sp – Space
  • Dec – Decrease
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Ch – Chain
  • Sc- Single Crochet
  • Bl – Back Loop
  • Trc – Treble Crochet

Instructions:

With color A, ch 42

Row 1: Turn, dec bl sc over 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, *blsc in next 5 chs, 3 blsc in next ch, blsc in next 5 chs, sk 2 chs*, rep *to* 2 more times ending with a dec blsc over the last 2 sts instead of sk 2. = 41 sc

Rows 2-5: Ch 1, turn, dec blsc over 2 sts, *blsc in next 5 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 5 sts, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* 2 more times ending with a dec blsc over the last 2 sts instead of sk 2. = 41 sc

Finish off and change to color B

Rows 6-9: Ch 1, turn, dec blsc over 2 sts, *blsc in next 5 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 5 sts, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* 2 more times ending with a dec blsc over the last 2 sts instead of sk 2. = 41 sc

Finish off and change to color C

Rows 10-12: Ch 1, turn, dec blsc over 2 sts, *blsc in next 5 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 5 sts, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* 2 more times ending with a dec blsc over the last 2 sts instead of sk 2. = 41 sc

Finish off and change to color D

Rows 13 & 14: Ch 1, turn, dec blsc over 2 sts, *blsc in next 5 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 5 sts, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* 2 more times ending with a dec blsc over the last 2 sts instead of sk 2. = 41 sc

Finish off and change to color A

Rows 15 – 24: Ch 1, turn, dec blsc over 2 sts, *blsc in next 5 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 5 sts, sk 2 sts*, repeat *to* 2 more times ending with a dec blsc over the last 2 sts instead of sk 2. = 41 sc

Edging

Continuing with color A and see pic below of where to place row one sts.

Round 1: Ch 1, evenly sc 25 sts down the row edges, 3 sc in 1st st of bottom row, * ch 5, Trc in valley sp, ch 5, sc in space of peak*, repeat *to* 2 more times, 2 sc in same sp as last st(corer), evenly sc 25 sts up row edges, sc in 1st st of row 21, ch 9(counts as trc and ch 5), *sc in middle st of peak, ch 5, trc in valley sp, ch 5*, repeat *to* 2 times ending in ch 1 sp where round 1 started, join with sl st = 7 trc, 12 ch 5 sps, and 61 sc

Round 2: Ch 1, turn, *sc in trc, 5 sc in ch 5 sp, sc in sc, 5 sc in ch 5 sp*, repeat *to* 2 more times, 3 sc in 6th ch of ch 9, 3 sc in remaining chs of ch 9(working down side), sc in next 27 sts, 3 sc in next st, 5 sc in next ch 5 sp, repeat *to* 2 times, sc in next trc, 5 sc in next ch 5 sp, sc in next st, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 27 sts, 3 sc in ch 3(up the side), 2 sc in same st as beginning sc, join withh sl sst = 144 sc

Round 3: Ch 1, turn loosely sl st in each st around and (sl st, ch 1, sl st) in each middle corner st. Join with sl st. = 4 ch 1 & 148 sl sts.

Finish off, weave ends in and block if needed. Lastly, Enjoy!!!

The Easy V-Puff Dishcloth is so quick and fun to make! It is a 1 row repeat, Just a couple of common stitches and works as a dishcloth, trivet or could even be a afghan square! It is Week 10 of the 2022 Fall Gift Giving CAL, 12 Weeks- 12 Dishcloths too!

Now on to Week 10 – Easy V-Puff Dishcloth

Tips:

  • It is super easy, there are only a couple ends to weave in for this project.
  • You can choose any color scheme to make it your own.
  • Make sure to sl st loosely
  • When making the V-Puff sts, draw up loops approx. 1/2″

Materials:

Yarn: 150 total Yards of Cotton Yarn

Here is what I used: Sugar N Cream Cotton Yarn in Dark Pine

Hook – H


Stitches:

  • Ch – Chain
  • YO – Yarn Over
  • St – Stitch
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Reverse Sc – Reverse Single Crochet
  • V-Puff St – Working all in the designated stitch/space, yo, draw up loop 4 times, yo, draw thru all 9 loops on hook, ch 2, yo, draw up loop 4 times, yo, draw thru all 9 loops on hook, ch 1.

Instructions for the Easy V-Puff Dishcloth:

Importantly, make sure to read the tips above. They are most important to success!

Ch 28

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 27 sc

Row 2: Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), turn, *V-Puff st in next ch, sk 3 ch’s*, repeat *to* 5 more times, V-Puff st in next ch, dc in last ch. = 2 dc & 7 V-Puff sts

Rows 3-14: Ch 3, turn, V-Puff st in each ch 2 sp of previous rows V-Puff st across, dc in last st. = 2 dc & 7 V-Puff sts

Edging

Row 15: Ch 1, turn, evenly sc 27 sts across top of row 14 to the last st, 2 more sc in last st(corner), evenly sc 25 sts down row sides, 3 sc in 1st ch of row 1, evenly sc 25 sts across ch’s of row 1, 3 sc in last ch of row 1, evenly sc 25 sts up row sides, 2 sc in same st as beginning sc in row 15 to form last corner. = 112 sc

Finish Off and rejoin yarn in 2nd st from middle corner st of bottom righthand corner(see pic)

Row 16: Ch 1, sc in next 26 sts, 3 sc in next corner st, sc in next 27 sts, 3 sc in next corner st, sc in next 27 sts , do not join, leave bottom row unworked(this already has 2 rows of sc complete)

Row 17: Ch 1, Reverse sc around. Join with sl st and finish off

Finish off, weave ends in and block if needed. Lastly, Enjoy!!!

Now on to Week 8 – Easy Pumpkin Dishcloth

Using 2 colors makes the design pop!

Tips:

  • It is super easy, there are only a few ends to weave in for this project.
  • Use two contrasting colors to get the best effect.
  • You can choose any color scheme to make it your own.
  • You work one side of the pumpkin in the chain then the opposite side in the chain
  • Make sure to sl st loosely
  • Most color changes you will just drop the color and pick up the next, carry the color up the side for the next color change
  • Even rows are the right side

Materials:

Yarn: 150 total Yards of Cotton Yarn for each, about 140 yds total, Color A 100 yds, Color B 40 yds.

Here is what I used: Hobby Lobby Crafter’s Secret Cotton in A-Bright Orange and B-Papaya

Hook – G


Stitches:

  • Ch – Chain
  • St – Stitch
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Bl – Back Loop
  • Fl – Front Loop
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Dec – Decrease (these are worked over 2 stitches)

Instructions for the Easy Pumpkin Dishcloth:

Importantly, make sure to read the tips above. They are most important to success!

With Color A, Ch 26

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across.=25 sc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next 7 sts, hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, sc in next 5 sts. = 10 sc, 20 hdc & 7 dc

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 7 sts, 2 dc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. = 10 sc, 10 hdc & 11 dc

Drop color A and pick up color B

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sl st in each bl across. = 31 bl sl sts

Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sl st in each fl across. = 31 fl sl sts

Drop color B and pick up color A

Row 6: Ch 1, turn, working in fl of the sl sts, 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 6 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. = 10 sc, 10 hdc & 14 dc

Row 7: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in net 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. = 10 sc, 14 hdc & 16 dc

Drop color A and pickup color B

Row 8 & 9: Repeat rows 4 – 5

Drop color B finish off and pickup color A

Row 10: Ch 1, turn, working in fl of the sl sts, 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st,, dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in last st. = 10 sc, 14 hdc & 23 dc

Row 11: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 16 sts, 2 dc in next st, hdc in next 10 sts, sc in next 3 sts, dec sc over last 2 sts(this is the bottom of the pumpkin). = 9 sc, 20 hdc & 20 dc

Row 12: Ch 1, turn, dec sc over 1st 2 sts, sc in next 11 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts, dc in next 11 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, sc in next 12 sts. = 25 sc, 14 hdc & 11 dc

Finish off

With color A, turn work around to opposite side of beginning chain. Make sure the wrong side is facing. Join in 1st chain(where the tail is)

Row 13: Ch 1, sc in each ch across.= 25 sc

Rows 14- 22: Repeat rows 2-10

Row 23: Ch 1, turn, dec sc over 1st 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 16 sts, 2 dc in next st, hdc in next 10 sts, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st. = 9 sc, 20 hdc & 20 dc

Row 24: Ch 1, turn, sc in 13 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts, dc in next 11 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st, sc in next 11 sts, dec sc over last 2 sts. = 25 sc, 14 hdc & 11 dc

Bottom Edge:

Continuing with color A

Row 1: Ch 1, sc 15 sts evenly across the bottom edge rows. = 15 sc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st 4 sts, hdc in next 7 sts, sc in last 4 sts. = 8 sc & 7 hdc

Do not finish off, Drop color A and pick up color B making sure RS is facing

Row 3: Skip 1st 4 sts of and join in the 5th st, ch 2(counts as hdc), dec hdc over next 2 sts, hdc in next st, dec hdc over next 2 sts, hdc in next st, leave remaining sts unworked.= 5 hdc

Finish off

Pick up color A, working on the RS

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st 4 sts, sc in next 5hdc, sc in next 4 sts, working up the side of the pumpkin, 1 sc in the side row, sc in next 50 sts, sc 17 sts evenly on top side rows, sc in next 50 sts down the pumpkin side, 1 sc in side row of bottom, join with sl st to 1st sc. = `132 sc

Finish off

Pumpkin Top

You will have 16 sts that form the top of the pumpkin(looks like a U where these are). With RS facing, join color B in the 1st st of the 16 in the U area

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 16 sts. = 16 sc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, dec sc over 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, dec sc over next 2 sts, sc in next st, dec sc over next 2 sts, sc in next st, dec sc over next 2 sts, sc in 2 sts, dc sc over last 2 sts. = 11 sc

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, *dec sc over 2 sts, sc in next st*, repeat *to* 2 more times, dec sc over last 2 sts. = 7 sc

Continuing to work all the way around the pumpkin

Row 4: Sl St in each st around and 1 sl st each in the top edge side rows. join to beginning sl st

Finish off

Stem

Join color B to 1st sc of row 3 of pumpkin top

Sl st in 1st 3 sts

Row 1-5: Ch 1, sc in 3 sts, turn

Finish off, weave ends in and block if needed. Lastly, Enjoy!!!
