I liked the way it looked with no border, I started to add one and wasn’t crazy about it… If you want to add a border, it is makers choice!

Now on to Week 7 – Simple Cluster Dishcloth

Using a variegated yarn(Emerald Energy) and the cream(Panorama) for the clusters it created this fun, random look.

Tips:

  • It is super easy just make sure you weave all ends in for this project. Since we won’t have a border, the time it takes to weave in the ends is made up in no edging time.
  • Use two contrasting colors to get the best effect
  • Even rows are right side facing
  • You can choose any color scheme instead so you can make it your own.
  • You will ch 1 after each cluster, don’t miss this

Materials:

Yarn: 150 total Yards of Cotton Yarn for each, about 100 yds main color and 50 yards contrast color.

For the lighter colored one, I used Lilys Sugar N Cream in Color A – Emerald Energy(this is contrast and Color B – Peaches n Cream Panorama.

For the darker one, I used Color A – Sugar N Cream in Warm Brown and Color B – Peaches N Cream in Gold

Hook: G

Stitches:

  • Ch – Chain
  • St – Stitch
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochet
  • Cluster – *Yo, insert hook in sp, pull up loop, yo, draw thru 2 loops*, repeat *to* 2 more times, yo, draw thru all 4 loops

Using the Brown with the Gold really made this one pop!

Instructions for the Simple Cluster Dishcloth:

Importantly, make sure to read the tips above. They are most important to success!

Color A is your contrast color (like the Brown above) – Color B is your other color (like the gold above)

With Color A, ch 38

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook,*ch1, sk ch, sc in next ch*, repeat *to* across = 19 sc & 18 ch 1

Finish off and join color B

Row 2: Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), turn, *Cluster in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* 16 more times, cluster in last ch 1 sp, dc in last st. = 18 clusters, 2 dc & 17 ch 1 sp

Finish off and join color A

Row 3: Ch1, sc in st, *ch 1, sk cluster, sc in next ch 1(this is in between each cluster)*, repeat *to* across, ending with sc in top of dc of previous round. = 19 sc & 18 ch 1 sp

Finish off and join color B

Rows 4-21: repeat rows 2 & 3 changing colors accordingly.

Finish off and weave in ends.

Now, on to week 2 – Summer Squiggles Dishcloth

Materials

120 yards Main Color (Color A) – I used Sugar and Cream in Hot Orange and 20 yards to surface stitch(Color B) – I used Sugar and Cream in White.

G Hook

Stitches

  • St – Stitch
  • Ch – Chain
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Dc – Double Crochet

Size

9 1/2″ x 10″

Instructions

With Color A, ch 35

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and each across. = 32 dc

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 32 sc

Row 3: Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), turn, dc in each st across. = 32 dc

Rows 4-21: Repeat rows 2 & 3

Row 22: Ch 1, turn, 3 sc in 1st st, sc in next 30 sts, 3 sc in last st, evenly sc 30 down the row ends, 3 sc in 1st st of bottom (row 1), sc in next 30 sts, 3 sc in last st of bottom row, evenly sc 30 up the row ends, join with sl st to 1 sc. = 132 sc

Row 23: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next 32 sts, 3 sc in next st*, repeat *to* 2 more times, sc in next 32 sts, 3 sc in last st. Join with sl st to beginning sc. = 140 sc

Mark this side as the right side and finish off.

This is your base dishcloth. You can make them just like this for one style.. Or add the surface crochet for a fun finish!

Now on to the Surface Crochet!

It may look or feel a bit complicated at first… But it is just slip stitching around the posts of the DC rows and up the sides to turn. Follow the pictures below too for help!

With Color B, join your yarn in the yarn of the side row next to the first dc on the right bottom row, loosely sl st around each dc post across – See the photo tutorial below.

*I found it easiest to keep the dishcloth flat on my lap while doing the sl stitching

Now we are going to turn the corner, join to the end of the row and slip st 3 sts up to the next row of dc’s. See the photo tutorial below, dont worry if your 3 side stitches you use are slightly different strands than mine.(#2 in the tutorial shows the 3 different strands I sl st in…) Next, turn your work around so you can work in the next dc row(turn it upside down, not to the wrong side)

Now you will slip st around each dc post in this row and keep turning the corner and working each row of dc until you finish the last row. Join with a sl st at the end and finish off. Basically you are zig zagging your way up the dishcloth on the dc rows…

That’s it… You now have your Summer Squiggles Dishcloth and you have the opportunity to have 3 different dishcloths to give as gifts or keep for your self(Waffle Stitch Dishcloth, The base of this dishcloth and the Summer Squiggles Dishcloth)!

I hope you are loving this CAL and all of the dishcloths…. Don’t forget to fill out the Stay Connected in the Right Sidebar to get all my posts by email!
