Worsted Weight Yarn ~ Pictured above in Plymouth Yarn Encore Dynamo, color 020.  A wool~acrylic blend that is self striping yarn. 180 yards

2 Fancy Buttons (optional)

Yarn Needle and Scissors

Stitches

Ch ~ Chain    St ~ Stitch    Sl St ~ Slip Stitch    Sc ~ Single Crochet    Dc ~ Double Crochet    FPHdc ~ Front Post Half Double Crochet    BPHdc ~ Back Post Half Double Crochet    Rev Sc ~ Reverse Single Crochet

*Special Stitch ~ X Stitch, This stitch pattern is formed by Skipping a stitch, Dc in the next stitch and then crossing back to the previous skipped stitch and making another Dc.. This forms an X Stitch.

Instructions

*Tip, You will be making a rectangle to form the crown of the hat… Once the rectangle is complete, you will sew the ends together to form the crown of the hat. Then you will gather the top of the hat using a yarn needle to make an easy stylish top and the final step… you will make a brim using simple stitching.

Ch 25

Row 1:     Sc in the 2nd Ch from hook and each St across. = 24 Sc

Row 2:     Turn, Ch 3(Counts as Dc now and throughout), *Sk St, Dc in next St, Dc in previous skipped St to form an ” X St” *, Repeat * * Across and Dc in the last St. = 2 Dc and 11 X Sts

Rows 3-34:     Repeat Row 2. Finish Off leaving a long tail to sew the hat together.

This rectangle is approximately 21″ long and  8 1/2″ wide.  If  you need to make the hat smaller or larger, you can add or subtract the repeat of row 2.

Sewing the crown of the hat together. 

With tail and yarn needle, Sew Row 1 together with Row 34, being careful not to gather the seam.  Finish off and secure.  Turn you crochet piece so that the seam is on the inside of the hat.

Gathering the top of the Hat

You can choose either end of the hat to be the top.   With a long piece of yarn and your yarn needle, gather the top of the hat by weaving in and out of the row ends and drawing it tightly together.  Sew the gathered area with a few stitches to secure the top of the hat. Weave in ends.

Brim

*You will be working in the round and your first row will be made in the ends of the rows from the crown of the hat.  You will have 33 row ends form the crown base of the hat, row 1 of the crown will not be in this count as it was sewn together to form the crown of the hat.

With right side facing and the bottom of the hat upwards, Join the yarn with a Sl St to any row end space.

Row 1:     Ch 1, Evenly crochet 66 Sc around the bottom of the hat.  This is approx 2 stitches in each row end. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 66 Sc

Row 2 & 3:     Ch 1, Sc around. Join with Sl St to beginning.  = 66 Sc

Row 4:     Ch 2(counts as a Hdc), Hdc in each St around, Join with Sl St to top of Ch 2. = 66 Hdc

Row 5:     Ch 1, *FPHdc in first 2 Sts, BPHdc in next St*, Repeat around. Join to beginning.= 44 FPHdc & 22 BPHd

Row 6:     Ch 1, Sc in each St around. Join with Sl St to beginning. = 66 Sc

Row 7:     Ch 1, Rev Sc in each St around. Join to beginning. = 66 Rev Sc.

Finish off

Sew 2 Fancy Buttons on to the brim .

Materials:

      • 99 Yards of Bulky Yarn ~ Pictured above in Premier Yarns, Isaac Mizrahi Craft Yarn in Carnegie Hill
  • Hook ~ N
  • 1 1/2″- 2″ Button

Stitches:

Ch ~ Chain

Sc ~ Single Crochet

Dec Sc ~ Decrease Single Crochet:  Insert hook in next stitch and pull up a loop, again-insert hook in the next stitch and draw up another loop (you should now have 3 loops on hook), Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Decrease made.

*This pattern is made by crocheting in the back loop of each stitch.

 

Instructions:

Chain 21

Row 1:  Working in one loop of each chain, Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and each chain across. = 20 Sc

Row 2:  Ch 1, Turn, Sc in the Back Loop of each stitch across now and throughout. = 20 SC

Rows 3-45:  Repeat Row 2

Row 46:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc in the next 16 Stitches, Dec Sc. = 18 Sc

Row 47:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc in the next 14 Stitches, Dec Sc. = 16 Sc

Row 48:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc in the next 12 Stitches, Dec Sc. = 14 Sc

Row 49:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc in the next 10 Stitches, Dec Sc. = 12 Sc

Row 50:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc in the next 8 Stitches, Dec Sc. = 10 Sc

Row 51:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc in the next 6 Stitches, Dec Sc. = 8 Sc

Row 52 (Buttonhole Row):  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, Sc 1, Ch 2, Skip next 2 Stitches, Sc 1, Dec Sc. = 6 Stitches(includes chains)

Row 53:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc, 2 Sc in the Ch 2 Space, Dec Sc. = 4 Sc

Row 54:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc 2 times. = 2 Sc

Row 55:  Ch 1, Turn, Dec Sc. = 1 Sc

Finish off and weave in ends.

Sew button in the center of Row 8.

This one of a kind Crochet Scarf measures 10″ x 75″ blocked

Materials:

Yarn ~ 404 Yards Fancy Worsted Weight Yarn (Pictured above in Red Heart Swanky in Sterling, 2 Balls)

Hook ~ I

Scissors and Yarn Needle

Stitches:

St ~ Stitch      Ch ~ Chain     Sc ~ Single Crochet     Dc ~ Double Crochet

Special Stitches:

V Stitch ~ Dc, Ch 1, Dc all in the same stitch

Bobble Stitch ~ YO, Draw up a loop 3 times all in the same stitch, YO and pull yarn through all 7 loops on hook.

 

Northern Nights Scarf Free Crochet Pattern

Instructions:

Chain 216

Row 1:  Sc in 2nd Ch from hook and each across. = 215 Sc

Row 2:  Ch 3 (Counts as Dc now and through out), Turn, Skip 1 St, V St in next St, * Skip 2 Sts, V St in next St*, Repeat * * across to last 2 Sts, Skip 1 St, Dc in last St. = 71 V Sts and 2 Dc

Row 3:  Ch 3 Turn, V St in the center of each V St from the previous row, Dc in last St. = 71 V St and 2 Dc

Row 4:  Repeat Row 3

Row 5:  Ch 1, Turn, Sc in the 1st 2 Sts, *Bobble St in center of V St from previous row, Sc in next 2 Sts*, Repeat * * across to end. = 71 Bobble Sts and 144 Sc.

Row 6:  Ch 3, Turn, Skip next St, *V St in next St(top of Bobble St), Skip 2 Sts*, Repeat * * Across. = 71 V Sts, 2 Dc Sts

Rows 7-8: Repeat Row 3

Row 9: Repeat Row 5

Row 10:  Repeat Row 6

Row 11-12:  Repeat Row 3

Row 13:  Repeat Row 5

Row 14: Repeat Row 6

Row 15-16:  Repeat Row 3

Row 17:  Repeat Row 5

Row 18:  Repeat Row 6

Row 19-20:  Repeat Row 3

Row 21:  Ch 1, Turn, Sc in each St across. = 215 Sc

Finish off, Weave ends in.

Block Scarf using either the Wet Blocking Method or Steam Blocking Method.
