2019 Crochet with Me!! Mystery Afghan CAL.. Week 4!

This week is easy-going, and simple stitching. There is a photo tutorial of the special stitch used.. So don’t worry if you have never used an X-Stitch before!  We are now 1/3 done.. Can you believe it??  I love this afghan, it is so easy to do one week at a time and in 12 weeks.. Voila.. An afghan!!!  If you are just joining me, you can still catch up, all the weeks including the Material List are in the Crochet with Me tab at the top of this page… Each week is just a few short hours of crochet.. Super manageable!

So here is the skinny on this project.. It is 12 weeks of crocheting, each weeks link is posted for safe keeping in the Crochet with Me!! tab at the top of the page…  You start with the Material List  .. Lots of great details about how the CAL works and the great Grand Prize Giveaway from our friends at Red Heart Yarns!!

Let’s get started…

This weeks stitches:

Ch – Chain

St – Stitch

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Sc – Single Crochet

Blsc – Back Loop Single Crochet

Blhdc _ Back Loop Half Double Crochet

Hdc – Half Double Crochet

Dc – Double Crochet

X St – X Stitch : Sk 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 1, dc in the 1st sk st (Photo tutorial below round 27)

This Weeks Size

30″ x 38″ smoothed, but not stretched

*This week we will be only working on the Right Side(side with texture).. No turning

Let’s Get Started!

Round 25:  Ch 2, Blhdc in next st, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 97 sts, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 69 sts, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 97 sts, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 67 sts, join with sl st to top of ch 2 bl. = 344 blhdc

Round 26:  Ch1, blsc in same st, blsc in next 2 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 99 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 71 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 99 sts, 3 blsc in next st, blsc in next 68 sts, join with sl st to bl of beginning sc. = 352 blsc

Finish off

Join Color B in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 27:  Ch 3, 4 dc in same st, dc in next st, *X-st(see pic below for tutorial){Xst explanation above in stitch directory} over next 3 sts, dc in next st after X-st*, repeat *to* 24 more times, 5 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat *to* 18 times, 5 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat *to* 25 times, 5 dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat *to* 18 times, join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 86 X-sts & 110 dc’s

Finish off

Join Color A in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 28:  Ch 1, 3 sc in same st, sc in next 105 sts(including the ch1’s), 3 sc in next st, sc in next 77 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 105 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 77 sts, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 376 sc’s

Finish off

Join Color C in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 29:  Ch 3, 4 more dc in same st, dc in the next 4 sts, *X-st over the next 3 sts, dc in next st after X-st*, repeat *to* 24 more times, dc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in the next 4 sts, repeat *to* 18 times, dc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in the next 4 sts, repeat *to * 25 times, dc in next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, dc in the next 4 sts, repeat *to* 18 times, dc in the last 3 sts, join with sl st to top of ch 3. = 86 X-sts & 134 dc’s

Finish off

Join Color A in Right Hand Corner Stitch of the long side

Round 30: Ch 1, 3 sc in same st, sc in next 111 sts(including the ch1’s), 3 sc in next st, sc in next 83 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 111 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 83 sts, join with sl st to beginning sc. = 400 sc’s

Round 31:  Ch 2, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 113 sts, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 85 sts, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 113 sts, 3 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next 84 sts, join with sl st to top of ch 2. = 408 blhdc

Finish off..

Berry Blitz Headband

This super cute, easy to make Berry Blitz Headband is a quick, less than one skein project… It is a companion to the Berry Blitz Infinity Scarf and would look so cute wearing them together!!  Great for chilly days, fashion statement and excellent gift idea too!!

Materials

Yarn~ 100 yards of worsted weight yarn. Pictured here in Red Heart with Love in Boysenberry.

Hook~ H

 

Size

19″ x 3″ un-stretched

Stitches

St ~ Stitch

Ch ~ Chain

Sl St ~ Slip Stitch

Sc ~ Single Crochet

Rev Sc ~ Reverse Single Crochet

Fsc ~ Foundation Single Crochet

Bs ~ Berry Stitch (Insert hook in st, draw up loop, ch 3, draw yarn through both loops on hook.)

Instructions

*You will be working in the round and you won’t turn every round, make sure to watch that

Round 1:  make 54 Fsc, join with sl st to beginning to form the ring. Be very careful not to twist the ring when joining

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st to beginning. = 54 sc

Round 3:  Ch 1, sc in 1st st, bs in next st, *sc in next st, bs in next st*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to beginning. = 27 sc & 27 bs

Round 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around. Join with sl st to beginning. = 54 sc

Round 5:  Ch 1, turn, bs in 1st st, sc in next st, *bs in next st, sc in next st*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st to beginning. = 27 bs & 27 sc

Rounds 6-7:  Repeat round 4

Round 8-12:  Repeat rounds 3-7

Round 13:  Ch 1, rev sc around. Join to beginning. = 54 rev sc

Finish off

Working along the bottom of round 1, join yarn with sl st to any st

Round 14:  Ch 1, rev sc around. Join with sl st to beginning. =54 rev sc

Finish off

Congratulations… You now have a Berry Blitz Headband!!!

Materials:

Yarn~ 2 colors of bulky #5 yarn 132 yards each. Photographed in Red Heart Hygge Yarn in  Color A: Slate Blue and Color B: Pearl.

Size:

33″ around x 8″ Height

Gauge:

Double Crochet 3″ x 3″ = 8 stitches x 4 rows

Stitches: 

St – Stitch

Sp – Space

Sl St – Slip Stitch

Ch – Chain

Sk – Skip

Dc – Double Crochet

Fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet

Rev Sc – Reverse Single Crochet

Cl – Cluster: Yo, insert hook in designated st or sp, draw up loop, Yo, draw through 2 loops, Yo, insert in st or sp, pull up loop, Yo,  draw through 3 loops, Yo, draw through 2 loops, ch 1, Yo, insert in st or sp,  pull up loop, Yo, draw through 2 loops, Yo, insert in st or sp, pull up loop, Yo, draw through 3 loops, Yo, draw through 2 loops.

Tips:

*By joining around instead of in the top of the beginning sts, you will make them shape into a fpdc.

*Carry your yarn up the hat when changing colors

*When changing colors, join with the next color in the joining st

*You will be working in the round

Instructions:

Ch 80, Join with sl st to form a ring. Be very carful not to twist your chain.

Color A

Round 1:  Ch 3(counts as dc now and throughout), *sk st, cluster in next st, sk st, dc in next st*, repeat *to* around. Join with sl st(using next color) “around” beginning ch 3. = 20 dc & 20 clusters

Color B

Round 2:  Ch 3, *cluster in ch 1 sp of previous row cluster, fpdc around next fpdc of previous round*, Repeat *to* around, cluster in last ch 1 sp, join with sl st(using next color) “around” beginning ch 3. = 20 fpdc & 20 clusters.

Rounds 3-13: Repeat round 2, changing colors every round.

Edging:

Round 1: Ch 1, work rev sc around, join with sl st to beginning. Finish off

Round 2: Join with sl st in any st of beginning ch on opposite end. Ch 1, rev sc around, join with sl st to beginning. Finish off.

That’s it.. Congratulations, you now have a Wildwood Waves Cowl!
