Each week I will have at least 1 round with a fun new stitch(This week it is the Bead Stitch), This is great for learning new stitches and making your afghan whimsical… The main base is a Granny Stitch… So easy!

Now for some of the details:

This year the project is worked in the round, turning over each round. It is a Square Afghan approx. 65″ x 65″ . You can make it in your choice of worsted weight yarn #4. Stashbuster, Ombre’, Self- Striping or even a color theme… At least 2 colors are recommended. I am making 3, Caron Cake Self- Striping, a Stashbuster… And I just started an Ombre color them this week.. Red heart Ombre in Sweet Treat

Let’s get the stitching started!

Tips:

If using self striping yarn, it will change sometimes in the middle of the row… This is ok

If changing colors,(not using self striping or ombre’) The instructions don’t say to when to change color due to the use of self-striping/ombre being used, but you will change every row and join in the space you joined in unless otherwise stated.

Work your ends in with a yarn needle as you go…This makes it much easier in the end…

WS vs RS Odd rows are the right side(RS) and Even rows are the wrong side(WS)

Week 2 size 36″ x 36″ … Different yarns and tensions may make your slightly different.. Don’t let it be to much of a variance or your project will be way to big or way to small

Week 2 Stitches:

Ch – Chain  St – Stitch  Sl St – Slip Stitch  Sp – Space  Sc – Single Crochet  Dc – Double Crochet

Bead St: Dc in indicated st, *Yo, insert hook around the post of the dc just made, pull up a loop*, repeat *to* 2 more times(7 loops on hook), yo and draw through 6 of the loops on hook, yo and draw through the last 2 loops on hook. ** Each bead st will make 2 sts total… The dc is one st and the last draw through 2 will create the 2nd st. (photo tutorial below)

**The Bead St is a yarn eater.. so make sure if you are changing colors, that you have plenty of the one you choose for this round

Super Saturday Quick Gift Crochet Along!!!

Super Saturday Quick Gift Crochet Along!!!

Today in my Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL Facebook Group we are doing a Super Saturday Quick Gift Crochet Along with my newest pattern, Grandma’s Double Thick Potholders both in Style I & II…

These are a great gift idea, super easy and fast… Christmas is just a couple weeks away and these are the perfect last minute gift!!

You can join my Facebook CAL Group by clicking here… and start the Super Saturday Fun!!! We will be positing our finished pics as we go… So get your yarn, hooks and camera ready and let’s do this!!!

I have been using Peaches & Cream Cotton Yarn by Yarnspirations… I was able to easily get this both at Walmart and JoAnns… But, many people just use their scrap yarn collection in Acrylic or Wool and that will work just fine as long as you don’t use these as a trivet with a very hot pan.

And… don’t forget to save this pattern for the future in your Ravelry Favorites!! Click here for Ravelry!

Materials:

Stitches:

  • St – Stitch
  • Sp – Space
  • Ch – Chain
  • Sk – Skip
  • Sl St – Slip Stitch
  • Sc – Single Crochet
  • Fsc – Foundation Single Crochet

*You will be making the Moss St which is just a combination of sc and ch 1, this creates a nice texture

Size:

7″ x 7″

Style I Block Color Potholder:

Starting with color A

Make 27 Fsc (or ch 28, turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across)

Drop color A, pick up color B (Do not cut yarn, you will switch everyother row and carry it up)

*After round one you will notice the work curling at the ends… this is what you want.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *ch 1, sk st, sc in next st*, repeat *to* 12 more times, ch 1, working on opposite side of beginning Fsc(see pic below)- sc in 1st st of this side, repeat *to* 13 times, ch 1, join with sl st to beginning sc *drop color B and pick up color A for sl st*, = 28 sc & 28 ch 1sp

Round 2: Ch 2(this counts as a ch 1 sp now and throughout), sk first sc, *sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* around. join with sl st changing to color A. = 28 sc & 28 ch1 sp.

Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in ch 1 sp(being careful to use the space formed by the ch 2 in beginning of round 2 for 1st st), ch 1, sk next sc*, repeat *to* around, join with sl st changing to color B. = 28 sc & 28 ch 1 sp

Rounds 4-14: Repeat rows 2 & 3

Round 15 – 28: Repeat rounds 2 & 3 with color B only

Finish of leaving a 30″ tail for sewing and loop.

Using tail and yarn needle, sew top closed. When you reach the opposite end, form a ch 1 loop ad ch 8, sl st back into the same st to form a loop for hanging potholder. Secure and weave in ends.

Style II Diagonal Color Potholder

Starting with color A

Make 39 Fsc (or ch 40, turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across)

Drop color A, pick up color B (Do not cut yarn, you will switch everyother row and carry it up)
