2021 Crochet with Me!!! Mystery Winter Afghan Crochet Along… Material List!!!

2021 Crochet with Me!!! Mystery Winter Afghan Crochet Along… Material List!!!

Welcome to the 8th Annual Crochet with Me… Winter Mystery Afghan Crochet Along!! Please join me once again over the next several weeks and make yourself a beautiful, whimsical square afghan… If this is your first time, you can click on the Crochet with Me tab at the top of the page and see all of the past CAL’s. This year will be easy, simple and fun… With yarn being a bit harder to get… And money being tight due to Covid.. I love the idea of doing a stashbuster… But I love yarn so much, I just cant resist buying some too…

So…..

This year I am making the Crochet with Me!!! Winter Mystery Afghan in 2 different color schemes.. I couldn’t decide on color choice so, Yes.. 2!!! I may even do a third.. Yikes! One will be made using self-striping yarn and the other is a stashbuster! If I do a third.. I will use an ombre colored yarn… So tempting!

Make sure to add this CAL to your Ravelry favorites for easy access.. Click Here!!!!

This CAL will be a 10 week project(not including the material list or finale post). Each week I will post a section for you to complete. If you start late or miss a week, you will find all of the posts in the Crochet with Me Tab at the top of the website… This week I have posted the CAL info, material list and all the fun ways you can participate… So let’s check it out!

Easy to join… All you need to do is come back here each Sunday afternoon for the weekly post… If you would like to get post reminders.. You can enter your email in the Stay Connected section in the right sidebar.

Another great way to join the fun is to hop over to Facebook and join my Beatrice Ryan Designs CAL group… This group is dedicated to my CAL’s only… We post pics, help each other, and each week I post the new links in the group… For this CAL, there will be weekly prizes exclusive to the group members(details below)

There is also a grand prize.. See the info below

**This is another traditional afghan, easy stitching, great take along project!

Size:

This will be a square afghan approx. 65″ x 65″ (size may vary with yarn type and personal tension)

This project will be mainly worked in the round

Material List:

Yarn ~ 3000-3500 yds total of worsted weight yarn for this project – You will need approx 400-500 yards of worsted weight yarn for the border in a complimentary color and approx 3000 yds for the base of the afghan. For best results I recommend 2+ colors, self striping or ombre yarn.

My neutral colored afghan is made using 7-8 Caron Cakes (383 yards each) in Buttercream and then for the boarder will use Red Heart Super Saver in Aran Fleck 2 skeins 260 yds each.

My amazing bright afghan is a stashbuster.. No rhyme or reason in the color layout.. Just all worsted weight yarn in acrylic or acrylic blends. My border will use one of the solid colors and need approx 400 yards for that.

If I do a third afghan, (so, me just saying if I do probably means I am…lol), the third will use a Red Heart Ombre yarn… Same yardage as the one in Caron Cake and I will choose a complementary yarn color for the border… Stay tuned!!!

Hook ~ H hook

Other supplies: Scissors, yarn needle and place marker

What you need:

Yarn~ Your stash of worsted weight yarn. Minimum of 3 colors 400 yards each(I used 9 colors). You will hold 3 strands together, but the more colors the better!!!

I chose 9 of these colors from my stash to complete this rug.

Hook~ P

Scissors and Yarn Needle

Non-Skid Rug Mat

Size:

21″ x 34″ after blocking

Stitches:

  • St – Stitch

Instructions:

Tip – When changing color start with 3 different colors… I changed 1 strand at a time and carried my Yellow yarn through the whole project, just alternating the change of color with the other 2 colors in a large variety of colors. I used 9 total colors

Tip – For the first few rows, I placed stitch markers in the middle st of the 3 sts(corner) so it was easy to know what st to make the corners in. After a few rows it was easy to see and I didn’t use the markers any longer.
