Amazing Grace Summer Shawl

Amazing Grace Summer Shawl is the 13th design in my Amazing Grace Series.  These Free Patterns are dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness  and in memory of my Dearest Friend Sandra Kay Gilb.  I hope you enjoy these patterns and have an opportunity to “Pay It Forward” by donating one of you projects to help someone who is suffering or recovering from Breast Cancer.

 

Amazing Grace Summer Shawl... Free Crochet Pattern!!!

The Amazing Grace Summer Shawl is light  and airy. It has beautiful drape that comes from the open stitching pattern and the magnificent cotton yarn!  This shawl would be another perfect pattern for a Prayer Shawl!!

Measurement ~

24″ x 60″

Materials ~

Premier Yarns Cotton Fair, Fine weight yarn (2). 3 Balls of Bright Peach & 1 Ball of White – 317 yards each.

Hook – H

Stitches ~

ch ~ Chain    st ~ Stitch     sl st ~ Slip Stitch     sc ~ Single Crochet     dc ~ Double Crochet     trc ~ Triple Crochet      yo ~Yarn Over     sk st ~ Skip St

Bobble Stitch~ Yarn Over (YO), insert hook in next stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops, (YO, insert hook in same stitch, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through two loops) two times, YO, and draw through all loops on hook.

Picot Stitch ~ Ch 3, sl st into base of 1st ch.  See a great video tutorial here from Moogly!

Instructions ~

Ch 240

Starting with Bright Peach

Row 1.  Turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across. = 239 sc

Change to White

Row 2.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 3.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Row 4. Ch 4 (Counts as dc now and throughout), turn, trc in next st, ch 1, sk st, * trc in next 2 sts, ch 1, sk st*, Repeat * * across 77 more times, trc in last 2 sts. = 160 trc & 79 sc

Row 5.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 6.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row7.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Row 8.  Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, sk st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next st, *sk 2 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next st, * Repeat 77 more times, sk st, sc in last st. =79 (sc, ch 2, sc) & 2 sc

Row 9.  Ch 3, turn, *3 dc in next ch2 sp*, Repeat * * across, dc in last sc. = 79 dc clusters & 2 dc

Rows 10-19.  Repeat rows 8 & 9

Row 20.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 21.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 22.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 23.  Repeat row 4

Change to Bright Peach

Row 24.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 25.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 26. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Rows 27-42.  Repeat rows 8 & 9

Row 43.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 44. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 45.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 46.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 47.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 48.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 49.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Rows 50-61.  Repeat rows 8 & 9

Row 62. Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 63.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 64.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Row 65.  Repeat row 4

Row 66.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to White

Row 67 Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Change to Bright Peach

Row 68.  Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. = 239 sc.

Do not finish off

Boarder ~

Continuing with the Bright Peach – 2 sc in same st (1st corner), working along the rows of the short edge, sc 79 sts evenly across to the next corner, 3 sc in st ( 2nd corner),  237 sc across to next corner, 3 sc in st (3rd corner), working along the rows of the 2nd short edge, sc 79 sts evenly across to corner, 3 sc in st (4th corner), 237 sts across to the beginning corner, Join with sl st. =644 sc

Edging ~

Repeat on both short ends of shawl.

Continuing with Bright Peach and working along the short edge.

Row 1.  Sl st in to the corner st, ch 1, sc across to next corner. = 83 sc,

Row 2.  Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st st, *ch 3, sk st, sc in next st*, Repeat across to end. = 43 sc & 42 ch3 sps.

Row 3. Ch 3, turn, work a bobble stitch in the first ch3 sp, *ch 2, work bobble st in next ch3 sp,*, Repeat * * Across to last ch3 sp, ch 1, dc in last st. = 42 bobble sts, 2 dc

Row 4.  Ch 1, turn, Sc in 1st st,* Make picot st , ch 1, sc in next ch 2 sp,*, Repeat * * across. = 42 picot sts

Finish off

Join yarn in corner st of 2nd short edge and repeat row 1 – 4.

Finish off and weave end in.

Block Shawl to desired shape.

    Thank you for offering these Amazing Grace Shawls patterns for free. I live in Anamosa IA and belong to a crochet group at Unity Point Hospital in our town. We crochet prayer shawls for people who are in the hospital for more than a couple days. These are usually senior patients who are very I’ll and some need to stay for physical therapy.
    Your patterns are so beautiful and I love making them.
