Crochet With Me… Winter 2016 Crochet-A-Long!! Week 1~Material List

Welcome to the Crochet With Me… Winter 2016 Crochet-A-Long!!!  This week we will be gathering our materials and preparing to start our 2016 Afghan!!  I’m so excited you will be joining in the fun!!

2016 CAL Week 1

If this is your first Crochet-A-Long here is how it works…

This is a Mystery Afghan… It will unfold as we make it!!

Each week over the next 12 weeks I will post a section of the afghan we all will complete together… Don’t worry!!  I work full-time and only have a few hours a week to work on my project, so my instructions will be easy to follow and easy to keep up with the groups pace!!  If you are wondering how you join this Crochet-A-Long, all you need to do is check back each Saturday evening for the next post.  If you would like to be notified by E-Mail… You can sign up on the right sidebar of this page where it says “Stay Connected”…

Now for the Material List!!

I loved seeing what you all voted for in the polls for this years Crochet With Me… Winter 2016 Crochet-A-Long!!  The winning yarn was Red Heart With Love… It is a great worsted weight yarn that is soft, washable and easy to work with!!  Best of all it is on sale now at JoAnn if you like to shop at that fabulous craft store!!

This afghan will be approximately 70″Long x 65″ Wide.

Your will need approximately 3600 yards total of Red Heart With Love Yarn. This Afghan can be made in a monotone style or using 2-3 colors. Instructions will be for both.  You can use any worsted weight yarn you desire, but the end result may turn out slightly different depending on the yarn.  It is best to use a main color and one or two accent colors….

With Love Yarn

I will be using Red Heart With Love ~ 3 Skeins of Boysenberry, 3 Skeins of Peacock and 5 Skeins of Eggshell.  Since this project is being made as we do this Crochet-A-Long, I am only able to estimate the amount of each I will be using.

Boysenberry Yarn  peacock yarn  Eggshell Yarn

I will be using a J Hook… We will be going over the gauge next week along with starting our first few rows of our projects…

Are you ready… I am and I am sooooo excited!!  Each post will be saved in the Crochet With Me tab at the top of the page for easy reference or if you join us late!!

Also,,, Each Saturday evening we will be sharing our photos and chatting about the project at 8 pm PST on my Facebook page… So make sure to hop over and check in next Saturday and show off the yarn you purchased…  I will have a specific Facebook post for this event each week!!  You can also follow along with the fun on the following social media sites…

Happy Crocheting!!

  7. Hi All!
I’m a week late, but will catch up and crochet along, excited my first CAL as it goes. I have done one other after it was already completed. Thank you so much for doing this.

  8. Yay! I just found this cal a few minutes ago. I’ll be using ww yarn I have on hand so I don’t get behind. Thank you for redirecting my attention from ponchos back to Afghan which I love making.

    Hi everyone! 🙂

  9. I have been wanting to join a CAL for awhile, I have never done one before. However, sometimes, the projects can be really huge & daunting. I love afghans, & think this is the perfect CAL for me to join! So excited! Now, off to buy yarn. Red Heart With Love is one of my favorites, super soft and easy to work with!!

  10. Noelle Huxley :

Hi I am in the UK and I can’t get “With Love”. Could I use “Soft” and if so how many skeins would I need if using 3 colours? Also does the afghan have a boarder and if not how much yard do you estimate for a simple boarder? Thank you

    • Beatrice Ryan Designs :

Yes you can use that too… i think its a bit lighter but it will work just fine… you will need the same yardage in the directions of week 1, Making one color a little more dominant… And yes there is a boarder as stated in each weeks instructions… we will add 3 ” to each side then a boarder all the way around

  11. Good evening! I am finally ready to jump in on this CAL, and realized that I can’t find the number for the pattern repeat so that I can calculate making a different size. This is to be for my son’s queen size bed, and I have the colors chosen and have the yarn bought. Sat down to get doing during the Super Bowl and can’t go further until I get this number – please :). I am truly loving how this is coming along, and have since week 1, I just haven’t been at a point to jump in until now. I’m really hoping that there is a pattern repeat so that I can still do this! Thank you for all your hard work on this.

  12. Jacqueline Miller :

I am behind on this, but would still like to do this CAL. I just saw it on my newsfeed! Please include me…Jacquie
